A Tableaux Vivants of A Christmas Carol

I decided to be a tableaux vivants of A Christmas Carol. The reason I chose this story over the others was because my knowledge of this story makes it easier for me to write this. To help those who do not know what a tableaux vivants is, it means moving pictures in french. It would also be useful to also refresh those on the story of A Christmas Carol. The story is about a man named Ebenezer Scrooge who is in general a hateful individual and is swallowed by greed and on one christmas night he is visited by four ghosts. One is his dead partner, Jacob Marley, who warns him that  three other ghosts are coming in which later he is visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past and then the Ghost of Christmas Present and then finally the Ghost of Christmas Future.  His interactions have caused him to change his outlook on life and made him a much kinder individual.

The second photo I used is When the Ghost of Christmas Past  when he shows him the two kids under his robe.

The second photo I used is When the Ghost of Christmas Past  when he shows him the two kids under his robe.
The third and final photo I decided to take was in the end with Tiny Tim and his interaction with Scrooge.

(I am sorry for the poor quality of photos)

The reason I used these scenes is because I thought it showed Scrooge’s change from beginning to end in the best way possible. The scene that was chosen shows us how unkind Scrooge can truly be. In this scene, the gentleman is asking for Scrooge to help out with the poor and unfortunate to in which he responds with, “are there no prisons”, to in which the man yes to in which Scrooge asked about the Workhouse and if they are still in operation (Dickens). The man said yes but said, “I wish I could say they were not”. In the photo I decided to look away to show that my just how little Scrooge cared.Scrooge then mentioned he wants to be left alone and does not care. It is with the scene in the second photo that I believe when we start to see a huge change in Scrooge’s character. This scene is near the end stage three when The Ghost of Christmas Present reveals that there were two children(who were in poor condition) under his robe in which Scrooge shows concern for the children and even asking, “Have they no refuge or resource” (Dickins).  I tried to convey how he was concerned for the children by having him point at them as if giving them attention in which is something that Scrooge would not have done if this was earlier in the story.  The final image is to portray the complete change of Scrooge’ s change of character. In the end he is much more kind and happy.  I portray this by making Scrooge actually smile.

To finish off, the three photos represent the stages of Scrooge’s characters. The first photo is when Scourge is shown to be more cruel and uncaring. The second photo is to show him starting to care about those less foutrante. The third and final photo is to show his complete transformation of Scrooge’s character as he shows compassion for others around him like with Tiny Tim.

Of The Cause of Unlawful Pursuits

Of The Causes Of War is a political argument written by William Godwin. It’s about how the government was originally used for protecting against injustice but is now(at the time) increasing things like oppression, war, conquest, and despotism. Throughout the work, we see that Godwin is very anti-war since he talks about the problems it brings on such as the suffering the soldiers feel.

Frakenstien is a novel by Mary Shelly. The novel is about how a scientist named Frakenstien who bestows life to a nonliving being he created. The creature then is in pain due to the fact that he feels isolated and alone and therefore wants to kill the man who created him.

There is a section in Frankenstein that parallels Godwin ‘s opinion on war. That section being on page fifty were Frankenstein talks about,”unlawful prsurits”(shelly). This section in general is talking about how there are truths that should not be known to us because they could ruin us in certain ways such as”destroy your taste for those simple pleasures in which no alloy can possibly mix”(50,Shelly). This patricully quote could actually be related to a part of Godwin’s work when he says that war causes thing like,”Towns ar burned, ships are blown up in the air, while the mangled limbs descend on every side”.What these two sections have in common is mentoring something that is irreversible such as in i Frankenstein saying that when one takes their pursuit to knowledge to far could ruin one’s wants for the simple things. Godwin’s is more about the loss of life, happiness, and innocence but the principle is the same. That’s really about it. In conclusion, Frankenstein and Of the Cause of War both parallel each other in a certain way. They are both a communtry on a certain issue. Of the Cause of War is about the problems with war and government while Frankenstein is about the danger of pursuing knowledge that could be dangerous. While these two are not about the same topic they do share that quality.

Shelley’s Nightmare

The Nightmare is a painting by Henry Fuseli. It portrays a woman lying on a bed with a creature sitting on top of her with a horse looking at her. She looks is in distress and is having a hard time to sleep. The obvious connection with Mary Shelley is that one can compare it to the nightmare she had about her dead mother such as seeing a corpse. She actually seem to feel guilty about her mother’s death to point of hating herself .One could actually make a comparison with Shelly and Frankenstein’s monster in terms of this aspect since both actually feel guilty about killing their parent. When Frankenstein was killed by his creation, The monster said that, ” (y)ou hate me; but your abhorrence cannot equal mine” (Shelly,p.196). It can be seen that shelly does in a way see herself as the monster that she created.

Is Socialism/Communism Bad

In the book Educated (which is a book I have been reading since the beginning), Tara’s father is always going on about how Socialism is bad and that you have to watch out for those socilaist college teachers. Throughout the book Tara’s father has always been betrayed as a conspiracy theorist who has a loose grasp of reality, however; I can argue that he might have a point about his fear of socialism.

For those who do not know what Socialism is, Socialism is a political and economic theory in which a social organization sizes the means of production. It originated from Marxism, which is basically the state between after overthrowing capitalism and becoming a comuinist state.

Just to say some examples of socialist/commuist countries include Venezuela, Russia during the 80s, Cuba, China, and North Korea. Notice how I did not say any Scandinavia countries because they are not socialist but capitalist which is better.

I am doing both Communism and Socialism because they are very similar.

“Why Nazism Was Socialism and Why Socialism Is Totalitarian” is an analysis making the connection between the Nazis and Socialist and also how socialism requires totalitarianism. George mention how everody actually saw the Nazis as capitalist instead of socialist except for Ludwig Von Mises and his readers. The reason for that is because the Nazi would actually leave alot of privte industries alone or so it appreaed to be. He goes on to explain that it was only under name that private ownership since the German government controlled everything from what was produced, how it was produced, how much is produced ,who the product go to, the price, and the wages that would be paid to the workers. George mentions that Mises said that private owners were basically were reduced to,”government pensioners”(Reisman). George also mentions how the Nazi were colectivist and saw that the good of the state come before the indvilual. They also saw that the individual was only there to benefit the state. He then goes on to explain how socialism in of itself totalitarian going on how one has give u things like property to the state.

George explanation of socialism and its connection to the nazis shows us the fundamental issue with socialism. The issue is totalitarianism. The idea of totalitarianism is that the government controls everything. The issue with totalitarianism is that it completely disregards the citizens of the state. The other issue with totalitarianism is that it requires fear and when that fear dies down than the people who were under that system will then want to revolt against the state.

“13 Illustrations of the Benevolence of Capitalism” by George Reisman is about how capitalism is moral. He mentions Thirteen points. The first point is that individual freedom in which he mention that while people are able to commit violent actions with individual freedom we do not have to deal with the government forcing us to do something. The second point is that natural resource can be used to boost the economy and make goods. The third point is that it is in nature that we approve our environment. The fourth point was about how division of labour gives a lot gains because experience is being added into the productive process . The fifth point is that a capitalist system has been known to move towards, “an equalization of the rate of profit, or rate of return, on capital across all branches of the economic system”(Reisman). The sixth point is that both people who own and people who do not own benefits in this system. The seventh point is that the existence of the inheritance system benefits both the people who get inheritance and who don’t because it shows that saving can be beneficial. The eighth point is that while yes there is loss in the system when one gains it also true that when one gains the other also gains. The ninth point we are able to increase our supplies. The tenth point is that capitalism is not of anarchy but of order. The eleventh point is that capitalism is a system that supports competition while socialism is a system of socialism .The twelfth point is that capitalism is improving with things like better pay, less work hours and better working environment. The thirteenth point is that a monetary system that is solely based on metales would be both inflation and depression proof.

By having George talk about the benefits of capitalism, one can understand socialisms shortcomings. Points one and elven best show this.. In point one people are allowed to make their own decisions in which could not happen in a socilist system since it is required that individuals be submissive to the state. With point elven it is shown that capitalism is about competition in which a monopoly would destroy yet in socialism the state is the one with the monopoly since they are the one who seize the means of production therefore the state would be the only real benefactor.

“Classical Economics Vs. The Exploitation Theory” is a comparison of classical economics and The Exploitation Theory. Geroge basically say that classical economics does not apply The Exploitation Theory and instead would make more sense to say that about socialism with its monopolies, and its control of wages.

George compression of these two ideas show the fact that classical economics does not take advantage of its workers like Karl thought it was. George puts it best when he says that,”the labor of businessmen and capitalists has more fundamental responsibility for the production of products”(Reisman)

The Relationship of Shawn and Tara

Educated is a memoir by Tara Westover. The memoir is a reflection of her home life and how she was not able to get formal education. The memoir goes on to show how she broke free form by deciding to get further education such as going to college.

One aspect of Educated that is worth looking at is Tara’s relationship with her older brother Shawn. One can see that throughout the memoir that Shawn is an antagonist to Tara such as when he keeps calling her names and even being physically assaulted. That is not what is interesting about the relationship between these two. What is interesting is how Tara views Shawn throughout the book and how it changes her. The three most interesting chapters to talk about are chapters twelve, fourteen, and twenty two. Throughout the book it seems shawn is a nice guy until chapter twelve where shawn grabs Tara’s hair and having her face being shoved in a toilet. While this is all happening, Tara is thinking that,”I’m only crying from the pain…From the pain in my wrist. Not from anything else”(111).  This statement here shows that Tara is denying both how she feels. It is clear that the reason for her crying is not just because she is in pain but there is an emotional aspect to as well since this a family member who she cares about. We also see that in chapter fourteen Tara denying something but instead of her feelings its now reality it self when she says that, “ I wish I had my best friend back, she wrote. Before his injury, I never got hurt at all” (131). In context, this was said after Shawn had a bad head injury. On the same page tara says that she would use this injury to justify the later actions done to her. This idea is obviously contradictory since we have seen Shawn hurt Tara before this injury but the reason for why Tera does this is because she is guilty for not visiting Shawn while he was in the hospital. This denying of both reality and fantasy would remain the status quo until chapter twenty two.

In chapter twenty two, we see a lot of the same stuff when it comes to denying reality. When Shawn shoves his finger into Tara in the kitchen in front of Charles (friend of Tera), Terra just laughs it off as it was some joke. A similar thing happens in a parking lot in front of people. We see a change after both of these things happening in front of people and having charles tell her that she can only help her self. In her diary entry, she does something different to in which she tells the truth about how she feels and what happen saying things like, ”it’s a thing I small as I am. If I was larher, at that moment, I would have torn him in half”(196). When Tera does this, it shows that she is able to see Shawn for who he is and is able to accept her feelings and reality for what it is. The reason she was able to finally get was because it happened in front of both people she cared about outside of the family and in front of strangers.

In conclusion, Tera at first is not able to see Shawn for who he is. The abuse gets bad to the point where she denies her feelings and even reality. Once it happens in front of people she cares about and strangers he is able to see him for who he is.

When looking back at what kinds of research paper that I have done, it’s hard for me to remember any of them since a lot of times they were just something that was more akin to a webquest than an actual research paper until around last year. Last year in English- 111- and even in English -112-  I learned two things. The First thing is that I learn that a research paper is more than just a web quest which was learned last year. The second thing is that when reading the Norton Field Guide to Writing with Readings and Handbook I learn more about my disciplinary interests.

In English -111- I wrote a research paper about mass immigration and in which I used my research to argue the point that mass immigration is bad. As previously stated, I learn that a research paper is more than a checkbox. The thing about this paper that made me think that this made it hard for me to think about this paper as just filling in a checkbox was because we were able to just write about anything instead of having to write about a specific thing. Since we could write our research paper about whatever we want, there was no real checkbox for each different topic and I had to think a little harder about how I was going to write my paper in which I was thankful for the paper being made like this since it helps me learn to write a paper like this. Looking back at this paper it made me think about my time reading the Norton Field Guide to Writing with Readings disciplinary interests. The disciplinary interests that fit me deal with the social sciences since my paper dealt with political and social ideas. Norton Field Guide explains that when talking about this concept as a whole,”Most colleges and universities are organized around fields of study, often referred to as disciplines that share ways of seeing universe doing research and presenting information-each through a different lens” (Bullock et al. 291).

Top Five Best JoJo Parts

JoJo Bizarre Adventure is a Japanese manga/anime created by Hirohiko Araki . The manga was created in 1987 and is still ongoing and the anime has been going on since 2012. The most basic summary of JoJo is that it is a multi part story dealing with the Joestar bloodline and their encounters with villians. Each part of JoJo has a different protagonist and a mostly with a different cast with recurring characters coming back rather it be a major or minor role. Eight parts exist in total. The names of each part in order are Phantom Blood(part one), Battle Tendency(part two), Stardust Crusaders(part three, Diamond is Unbreakable(part four), Vento Aureo(part five )(Golden Wind), Stone Ocean(part six), Steel Ball Run(part seven), and JoJolion(part eight).

Just some basic knowledge about the world Of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. One thing is that vampires exist . A thing called hamon is just punching with the power of the sun and after part two that does not matter. In part three a thing stands are introduced to in which case can just simplify as a physical manifestation of one psyche and people with this ability are the only who can see it. In part seven, a thing called the spin is another power system that has no mention after that part.

Without a doubt, Steel Ball Run (part seven) is the best part of JoJo but before I start saying the reason for why I love A basic plot synopsis is called for. In 1890,Johnny Joestar who used to be a prodigy in horse racing is now a cripple(the reason being he got in the back after cutting in line to opera) . Pretty quickly he meets Gyro Zeppeli. When Johnny meets Gyro, he causes him to have feeling in his legs and even stand for about a second. This happen because Johnny had experience some of the spin form Gyro’s steel balls. After that crazy things happen such as these two chads finning out that That President Funny Valentine is looking for the corpse parts of Jesus Christ to basically make America great and British guy who can turn himself and other thing/people into dinosaurs. I can finally talk about What is so great about this part. One is that this part has the most interesting protagonist Johnny Joestar and the best villain Funny Valentine. Johnny is a protagonist who is actually kind of a bad person and is a selfish and it is a nice change of peace. The thing that is interesting about Funny Valentine is that he is a Villian that you can actually agree with unlike the other villians in JoJo who are just pure evil like Dio ( we will get into him later). I also love how Gyro is really the only good person out of most of the cast. I also love Johny’s and Funny’s stands. I love Johnny’s Tusk because it is a act base where it basically levels up to a stronger version. It goes from shooting fingernails with the assistance of the spin to punching someone who punches someone with the Infinite rotation. Funny’s stand is D4C or Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap or as we Americans called Filthy Acts Done at a Reasonable Price. HIs stand is that he can travel in between dimensions and when he brings back something from another universe to the original and that object interacts with the alternate version interact they sandwich each other. That’s more or less it however.

The Basic Synopsis of Vento Aureo is that our Protagonist Giorno Giovanna (a fifteen year old boy) wants to become a Gangster so he can get drugs off the street of Italy and after being lick by Bruno Buccellati and fighting him he gets the chance to join the group Passione by taking a test in which past (He also killed the instructor polpo after passing the test by turing a gun into a banana and turning it back into a gun while it was in his mouth) . After joining things happen and passione end up treating the boss. That’s all you need. I think Vento Aureo is the second best for a couple of reasons. One the Protagonist’s ability to turn non living things into living things is cool. I also think this part as the best side character overall and the most creative stands. That’s it.

Battle Tendency is about Joseph Joestar and his fight with the pillar men who are basically stronger Vampires. The best thing about part two is that this is the part where the fights start to rely more on the concept of strategy instead of just brute force. I also think that Joseph Joestar is a really likeable protagonist and was an upgrade form is grandfather in part one Jonathan Joestar. You can probably call part two a better version of part one.

Diamond Is Unbreakable is about a murder mystery in a small town. I love the main villain Yoshikage Kira and I think that Josuke Higashikata is a good protagonist. I also love that this is the part that got the trend of stands being named after songs and bands from the west. Those are the major reasons anyway.

Stardust Crusaders is about Jotaro Kujo and his friends traveling to egypt to beat up DIO because he cause Jotaro’s mom to get sick when she got her stan and because he stole the body of Jonathan Joestar who is Jotaro’s great grandfather. Part three is where the concept of stands is introduced and in which is the reason it is on the list. I also love the design of Jotaro Kujo and how we can tell a lot about his character by just looking at him. There are some other qualities that can be discussed but it be tedious to you guys. The reasons for why Phantom Blood,Stone Ocean, and JoJolion are not the list is simple. With Part one, The protagonist Jonathan Joestar was a very weak character and felt dull as whole which caused it to be to low to put on the list. The villain Dio Brando was interesting thankfully. Part six had the opposite problem with an interesting protagonist like Jolyne Cujoh but weak villain Like Puchi whose motivation for his actions is because he just loving that sweet Dio Body. Part eight is not finished yet so it would be unfair to place it anywhere on the list at this time.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
